Regular, Gold Card, and Enhanced permits 
Call the Secretary of State Office (605)773-3537
Select option 3
1. Send a written letter to the Secretary of State office with your name, date of birth, and
what needs to be updated and $2 cash, check, or money order.

Your pistol permit is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. 
Pistol permits can be renewed 30 days prior to expiration.

Replacement pistol permits can be requested from the South Dakota Secretary of State. You
may refer to the guidelines listed below,

Replacement of Permit: (SDCL 23-7-69) - A person who has been issued a permit to carry a
concealed pistol shall maintain current information on the permit by notifying the secretary of
state in writing of a change in the person's name due to marriage or court order or of a change
in physical address. If the revised address is located within South Dakota, the secretary of state
shall provide a new permit to the person.

Depending on the type of permit, it can take anywhere from two weeks to 30 days to receive.
If you have not received your permit at it has been longer than 30 days, please call
Secretary of State Office (605)773-3537
Do NOT call the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office. They are not able to track your permit after
it has been submitted to the state

● Applicant is subject to a background check and/or fingerprinting
Enhanced Permit
● Valid South Dakota Driver's License
● Certificate from an authorized gun safety instructor. (See FAQ for a list of providers)
● Applicant is subject to a background check and finger printing
